Cover every consulting hour, and be able to prove it
A clinic schedule has to be right rather than roughly right. The wrong person on the wrong afternoon is not an inconvenience, it is a cancelled list.
Not everyone can cover everyone
Qualification, registration, the room they are trained on. A gap filled by the wrong person is not a gap filled.
The record is a paper diary
Which is fine until somebody needs to know who was on reception on a Tuesday in March, and why.
Part-time and sessional hours are hard to total
Two mornings here, a Saturday there, a locum for a fortnight. It adds up to a spreadsheet nobody wants to own.
The right cover, and a record that survives a question
Roles and departments decide who can fill what, so a draft never puts an unqualified person in a slot. Every clock-in is timestamped against the shift it belongs to, and corrections are recorded as corrections rather than overwriting the original.
